Macaws include some of the largest and most
stately birds in the parrot family.
They range from the smallest at 12 inches long to the
Hyacinth Macaw measuring about 40 inches from head to tail.

| They get their name from the
fruit they feed on – that of the macaw palm – native in the
Amazon region of South America. |

|

The Blue and Gold Macaw and Green-winged
Macaw share approximately the same length of about 33 inches
however the Green-winged is much larger in body density.

Scarlet Macaws are often considered the most
beautiful macaws with scarlet red plumage, light blue backs,
rumps and upper tail coverts and yellow in the center of the
wings.

Young macaws can be distinguished by
grayish-colored iris, lighter beak coloration and shorter tails.

|
| Macaws are not considered good
pets for the beginner bird fancier however they are used lot in
shows for they’re talking, trick abilities and free flights. They can be an owner’s “best pal”.
