Lories

Lories and Lorikeets make up about sixty different species.  They are found naturally in Australia, New Guinea and many islands in the Pacific.

They range in size from small at about a 12 inches long to medium-size of about 12˝ inches long.  The smaller species are usually referred to as “Lorikeets”.

Lories are nectar-eating birds.  Other nectar-feeding birds such as hummingbirds suck the sweet fluid out of plant blossoms while Lories usually crush the blossom then lick up the honey with their tongues.  They also dine on fruits.

Because these birds are fruit and nectar-eaters they have a tendency to have watery stools.

They are one of the most active playful clowns of the bird world.
